The Power Block is a mechanical pulley used to pull up or let out nets on fishing vessels. Invented and patented by Mario Puratić in 1953, the power block revolutionized purse seine net hauling. Fewer crew were needed to haul the net and purse seine fishing became safer and more productive.
The 65-foot purse seiner Shenandoah's Puretic Power Block is on display in the Maritime Gallery at the Harbor History Museum, Gig Harbor, WA.
